Design Firm Visit

Over Thanksgiving break I had the amazing chance of meeting with a professional architecture, Samuel Park. He helped me in so many ways.  Since our final project was designing an ADA accessible apartment with an ADA visit able income suite for the tenants to rent out as a source of income for them, Sam had some great ideas for my project and some things to keep in mind for future projects. I had a great time meeting with Sam, he was very friendly and gave me great advice.  He told me that even though our templates have a bath tub on them that we have to remember that it is just the hole for the tub itself not the over all "tub"with the walls and everything around it.

When I got the Sam's office I spread out all my drawings and set them up in what rooms they were. Kitchen, living room, master bedroom, guest bedroom\office,  master bath room and finally guest bathroom.  I then told Sam what out project was about and all the ADA accommodations that I made within the apartment.  I then asked him what his opinions were about my design for the ADA apartment.  He said that my over all design was very strong and that I thought of everything, to 5 foot turn around to 3 feet for door ways.

Some of the Questions that Sam asked me were, 'why did I choose a roll in shower instead of a transfer shower?'  I responded to his question by saying that since our client was getting older, transferring out of his wheelchair would continue to get harder and harder for him.  Another question that he asked me was 'why did I leave the living room so open?' my response to him was the since our client is in a wheelchair I wanted him to feel free to move around his living room and not have to worry about bumping into anything.
